Inspired by The Sweeney: Jack Regan Football Shirt
This Metropolitan FC kit is inspired by the 1970s British TV drama, The Sweeney. Reminiscent of the show's opening credits, the kit is blue with a nod to the Met in its chequered stripe. The embroidered badge takes its cue from the Metropolitan Police badge itself, and features the years the series was airing alongside the team name.
Our main sponsor, Flying Squad, felt only right - after all, without a clever bit of rhyming slang, The Sweeney wouldn't have its name. Our sleeve sponsors come from businesses both seen in series 2, the first, National Mercian Bank, comes from episode 13, "Thou Shalt Not Kill", in which the bank is the victim of both a robbery and a hostage situation. "Geislers Gallery" is featured in episode 10, "Trojan Bus", wherein it falls prey to a pair of Australian art thieves.
We chose Detective Inspector Jack Regan to immortalise on the back of the shirt, along with the number 75 for the first airing of the drama. Our final detail is a quote on the back. Obviously, we couldn't close out our kit without including this iconic quote from the very first episode: "We're the Sweeney, son, and we haven't had any dinner".
PLEASE NOTE: WE GET NEW STOCK OF THESE SHIRTS PRINTED ON AN ONGOING BASIS, SO IF YOUR REQUIRED SIZE IS CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK PLEASE ORDER YOUR CHOSEN SIZE LISTED AS "PRE-ORDER - AWAITING STOCK". WE WILL THEN DISPATCH YOUR SHIRT AS SOON AS WE RECEIVE NEW STOCK (WHICH WILL USUALLY TAKE ANYTHING FROM A COUPLE OF DAYS TO 3 WEEKS, DEPENDING ON PRODUCTION).
