Inspired by The Smiths: Johnny Marr Football Shirt
We've drawn inspiration from orange GM buses for the detailing on the sleeves and collar of our The Smiths-inspired shirt; a nod to their origins in Manchester. Strangeways FC pays homage to the 1987 album, "Strangeways, Here We Come", and features the entrance to HMP Strangeways itself, simplified for embroidering, and a small gladioli emblem.
The main sponsor, PANIC (London, Birmingham, Leeds, Grasmere, Carlisle, Dublin, Dundee, Humberside), takes inspiration from the 1986 song of the same name, fashioned into a business-esque logo using the typeface featured on the single cover.
On the sleeves, we have the sign from Salford Lads Club as seen in the iconic 1985 photoshoot of the band outside its doors, and an army helmet reminiscent of the one featured on the "Meat is Murder" album cover, with the lyrics 'Son and Heir' from the 1984 song, "How Soon is Now".
The back features the number 82 for the band's formation, and Marr, for Johnny Marr. At the bottom, we have a small bunch of gladioli, their placement reminiscent of Morrissey's own; sticking out of his back pocket.
PLEASE NOTE: WE GET NEW STOCK OF THESE SHIRTS PRINTED ON AN ONGOING BASIS, SO IF YOUR REQUIRED SIZE IS CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK PLEASE ORDER YOUR CHOSEN SIZE LISTED AS "PRE-ORDER - AWAITING STOCK". WE WILL THEN DISPATCH YOUR SHIRT AS SOON AS WE RECEIVE NEW STOCK (WHICH WILL USUALLY TAKE ANYTHING FROM A COUPLE OF DAYS TO 3 WEEKS, DEPENDING ON PRODUCTION).
