Inspired by The Streets: Mike Skinner Football Shirt
Inspired by the music of Mike Skinner, A.K.A. "The Streets", this football shirt is packed with lyrical references. Printed in a dark grey pattern to match the mood of urban living heavily associated with the music, the front sponsor "Herbs+" is a nod to a line from his breakout 2001 single "Has It Come To This?" - "...few herbs and a bit of Benson/But don't forget the Rizla...". The embroidered badge features an image of an ashtray and a line from "It's Too Late" - "We first met through a shared view, she loved me and I did too".
The "Original Pirate Material" theme continues with the sleeve sponsor "Turn The Page" (the opening track), on a clipper lighter in a similar style to The Streets' logo, while the other sleeve features a beer logo parody and a nod to "Empty Cans" from "A Grand Don't Come For Free". The number one (with a small "k") on the back of the shirt is also a reference to "A Grand...", The Streets' second album, whilst the same "Skinner" at the top uses the same font as many of his albums. Below the neck is another lyrical reference: "Where you from? What you on? What's your story?" from the classic "Weak Become Heroes", while the bottom of the back of the shirt features a stylised image of a brutalist tower block inspired by much of Skinner's imagery and themes.
