Inspired by A Clockwork Orange: Alex Football Shirt
Celebrating both Anthony Burgess' 1962 novel and Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film adaptation, our bootick is proud to present our Droog FC football koshtoom. The team name, of course, comes from the name Alex calls his gang. As we reference both the film and the book, we have included both of the initial release years on the embroidered badge, and the badge itself is in homage to the iconic mass-market paperback cover released by Penguin in 1972. The patterning in the shirt is also a simplified echo of part of that same design, which had to be a gromky orange. Obviously.
Our main sponsor is the Korova Milk Bar, proudly serving Moloko Plus in three delicious varieties. The typography here is based on the type seen on the walls in the on-screen version of the bar. On one sleeve we have a prison band from the stripey hole where Alex is incarcerated, State Jail 84F. The plenny number, 6655321, is the prisoner number used in the original novel—it was reduced by one digit in the film. The other sleeve sponsor is the Ludovico Technique, the aversion therapy used to rehabilitate Alex. Serum 114 is a nod to the film, which in turn is a malenky nod to another Kubrick film, Dr. Strangelove.
It wouldn't be right to have any eemya other than Alex. The number 95 is in reference to the Durango '95 as seen in the film.
Finally, at the bottom of the shirt, we have a portion of one of our favourite quotes from the novel, which we thought was apt. "Then I looked at its top sheet, and there was the name A CLOCKWORK ORANGE and I said: 'That's a fair gloopy title. Who ever heard of a clockwork orange?'"
This shirt is being produced by Sigur Sportswear exclusively for RedMolotov.
