Salvador Allende Tote Bag
Salvador Allende Tote Bag
The first Marxist leader to gain power via democratic means, Allende was elected President of Chile in 1970. His socialist policies, and his relationship with Fidel Castro in Cuba, brought him into dispute with the capitalist world, most notably the United States, and resulted in the military coup of September 11th 1973 where he was overthrown by an allegedly western-backed General Pinochet (whose death squads subsequently murdered up to 1000 political opponents in the following months). The quote on this design "!Viva Chile! !Viva el pueblo! !Vivan los trabajadores!" ("Long live Chile! Long live the people! Long live the workers!") are the closing lines of his final radio address on the morning of his death. Our design is printed on a 100% cotton, eco-friendly tote bag.
