Kaprekar's Constant T-Shirt
Kaprekar’s Constant is the number 6174, named after the Indian mathematician D. R. Kaprekar. It arises from a numerical process applied to four-digit numbers and has the remarkable property that it is reached from almost any valid starting point. The procedure is as follows:
Begin with any four-digit number that contains at least two distinct digits (numbers like 1111 are excluded).
Rearrange the digits to form the largest and smallest possible four-digit numbers (leading zeros are allowed in the smaller number).
Subtract the smaller number from the larger one.
Repeat the process using the result.
This iterative process will always converge to 6174 within a finite number of steps (at most seven). Once 6174 is reached, the process becomes fixed, since: 7641 − 1467 = 6174
