Protest and Survive: New Designs From RedMolotov.com

April 1st, 2009

New T-Shirt Designs This Week from RedMolotov.com

In keeping with the atmosphere generated by a combination of the continuing total financial meltdown and the G20 summit we have for you this week a number of t-shirt designs that we feel faithfully capture the current zeitgeist. We’ve got protest, we’ve got despair, we’ve got anarchism, we’ve got the acceptable faces of international capitalism, we’ve got symbols of workers’ and women’s liberation tied up into one and, yes, we’ve got Gordon. We’ve also got a load of bankrupt former airlines, a symbol of modern excess and finally we’ve got JLC. We’re not sure where Mr Collins fits in to all of this either, to be honest. But we’re sure he’d make us laugh.

Buenaventura Durruti T-Shirt

Buenaventura Durruti T-ShirtDurruti was a prominent anarchist leader during the Spanish Civil War. He initially was key in preventing the military uprising in Barcelona, preventing it from falling into Nationalist hands in the battle of Ataranzaras Barracks. He went on to help found the Anti-Fascist Militia’s Committee which effectively ran Catalonia during the war, and led the Durruti Column which, amongst other things, held Madrid for the Republic in the face of the Falangists. Durruti was killed in November 1936 during the Battle of Madrid. Here he is accompanied by a quote attributed to him: “There are only two roads, victory for the working class, freedom, or victory for the fascists which means tyranny. Both combatants know what’s in store for the loser.”
